Billed as a “state of the union” about substance misuse in Iredell County, the Drug and Alcohol Coalition of Iredell (DACI) is proud to present the 2024 version of In The Know
The plenary speaker will be Sam Quinones. A journalist and author, Quinones might well be the the leading expert on the real toll of the opioid crisis at the "individual" level.
His books, Dreamland and The Least of Us get directly to the toll of opioid on people. Multiple sources call Dreamland one of the best true crime books of all time and in 2022, the National Book Critics Circle nominated The Least of Us as one of the best nonfiction books of 2021.

Quinones has lectured a more than 50 universities across the United States. He testified before the U.S. Senate Labor, Education, Health and Pensions committee in January, 2018.
